Hello, my name is Patricia Wirtz and I am the owner of Hubbard Swim Club, LLC. I have been swimming since I was 5 years old at the Hubbard Community Pool. When I graduated from Hubbard High School, I began my coaching career as the Assistant Coach for Hubbard Swim Club. At that time, Julianne Carsone was the head coach and served as my mentor. Throughout my early years of coaching, our club grew from 20 kids to nearly 80 by 1995. At this point, Julianne had turned the club over to me and I assumed the Head Coach role. Our club was extremely successful and very well known throughout northeastern Ohio.
In 1995 I was faced with a life changing decision. I chose to start a family and due to my husband's job, we moved to Cleveland. Shortly after I resigned, the Hubbard Swim Club had dissolved.
In 2000, I slowly began coaching again, but this time at the Varsity level. Last season, Craig Yaniglos, the current Head Varsity coach and I, were discussing bringing back Hubbard Swim Club. After a great deal of thought, I knew I liked working with developmental children more and this would be a great opportunity. I decided it was best to continue with what has worked for me in the past: the affiliation with USA Swimming.
USA Swimming is the largest swimming organization in the world and we are lucky enough to belong to Lake Erie Swimming as our Local Swim Committee (LSC). Lake Erie Swimming is known across the country for producing amazing and talented youth swimmers of all ages. Multiple swimmers in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic games were from Ohio and Lake Erie Swimming.
In starting up a club, there are three options: Coach Owned or Private Business, Non-Profit, and Booster Clubs. I chose to form an LLC, a limited liability company, because it is becoming the most common type of new club. A coach owned club takes the emphasis off of the parents and at the same time limits my personal liability.
I hope I have conveyed my thoughts about a sport that I will love for the rest of my life. My goal is to have every child swim to his/her own potential. Not every swimmer will be an olympian, but I truly believe that swimming teaches many life long lessons and I will do my best to ensure that every child that belongs to Hubbard Swim Club, LLC, has a great experience! If you have any questions about HSC or would like to join, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to assist in any way I can!
Swimmingly,
Coach Trish
